Travel Guide: Transportation in Lexington, KY

Public transportation in Lexington, KY has a long-running history that dates all the way back to the city’s first omnibuses in 1875. Today the city of Lexington offers many different modes of transportation to get you from point A to point B.

 

Lextran

Lextran, The Transit Authority of Lexington, KY is Lexington’s public transportation system. They operate a fleet of 65 buses with a mainline bus service running from 5:30 am to 12:30 am. Colt Trolley

As Lexington’s newest form of transportation, the Colt Trolley system is a set of hybrid-electric trollies that run throughout the town of Lexington. There are two different lines, the Blue and the Green.  The Green line runs from the University of Kentucky to Transylvania University and the Blue line loops around Main Street and Vine Street. Transportation from Blue Grass Airport

If arriving in Lexington at the Blue Grass Airport, there are many options to choose from to get you where you need to go. Only a 10-minute ride to downtown and a 20-minute ride to Bluegrass Extended Stay, the Blue Grass Airport is a convenient option for those frequently visiting Lexington, KY.

  • Airport shuttle service – There are a variety of shuttle services that can be picked up from the airport. From a shared van ride to a private van or local personal driver, there is an option that is sure to fit your transportation needs. Visit their website to learn more about all the different shuttle
  • Taxi, Uber or Lyft services – Grab a cab or schedule an Uber or Lyft for a quick option to getting around town. Costs will vary from service to service. Taxi services are available by the baggage claim exits. For Uber or Lyft rides exit the main level of the airport and from arrivals head to the passenger pickup area.
  • Buses – Direct routes are offered from the airport to downtown, from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm. Look for the designated pickup area located near the parking lot of the terminal.

Bike-Share

Just announced last month that the city of Lexington will be providing a bike-share program. Partnering with Spin, a dockless bike-share provider, this program will allow people to use bikes for a fee. The plan is to have these bikes available downtown and on several college campuses.
