Ashland- Henry Clay Estate

For nearly half a century, Ashland was the home to the historic statesman Henry Clay. The estate provides hour-long guided tours explaining Clay’s legacy and allows you to explore the 19th-century home filled with artifacts and authentic antique furniture. Tours are $25 per person, but you can explore the grounds and gardens for free.

International Museum of the Horse

Lexington is the horse capital of the world for a reason! The International Museum of the Horse expands over 64,000 square feet, all with ways to explore the horse’s impact through human history. It’s a terrific stop while visiting the Kentucky Horse Park, providing you with a more unique experience while learning about equine sports. Admission is free and is included in a horse park admission ticket.

Headley-Whitney Museum

If you’re looking to explore the fine arts while visiting Lexington, the Headley-Whitney Museum is for you. The museum’s mission is to “provide knowledge, enjoyment, and appreciation for the arts,” and they definitely live up to it. When exploring the grounds, you can take a stroll through the rose garden and the best time to see the blooms is in the summer. Within the museum, decorative art and opulent jewelry are all on display. The Whitney Doll Houses are also on display and are true masterpieces with highly detailed features.

Mary Todd Lincoln House

Since 1977, the Mary Todd Lincoln House has kept its doors open to provide a unique experience in learning about the historical first lady. Take a self-guided tour through the 14-room house and learn all about life in the early 1800s. Authentic family portraits of both the Todd and Lincoln family are on display, along with authentic furnishing as well.
