Take a drive

Take a train ride

All aboard…the Bluegrass Scenic Railroad that is! Come aboard the train for a day ride out to the Kentucky Gorge River area. The scenic vistas of this landscape make this one of the best places to see fall foliage in Lexington, KY (or at least close by). Every weekend in October the Autumn Leaves train will stop off at a pumpkin patch for visitors to pick their own holiday pumpkin. Train rides every Saturday and Sunday at 2 PM and be sure to visit their website for the most up to date train schedule.

Arboretum at The University of Kentucky

As the state botanical garden of Kentucky, the Arboretum is one of the best places in town to view fall colors. Take a stroll along the 2-mile paved path called, “Walk Across Kentucky”, throughout the gardens and colorful historic trees that line the property. It is open from dawn till dusk every day of the year.

Generally, the best time to see the fall foliage in Lexington, KY will be during mid to late October, the peak season throughout the state. Although the change of seasons can begin to be seen in early September.
